Esso subverts

Seen masquerading as 'Poems on the Underground' on a District Line train 15th March 2003. Note for non-UK readers: Esso is Exxon's trading name in the UK, and the tiger is their advertising symbol.

Fear much more the heat o' the sun [with apologies to William Shakespeare]:

Fear much more the heat o' the sun
And the furious winter's rages,
Because of what Esso has done,
To buy Bush off, to pay his wages;
Thanks to them we can rely
On global warming to make us fry.

Fear much more the flood and rain
As plants and animals disappear;
When Esso has so much to gain
Do you think they'll shed a tear?
So why so much cash for oil?
The planet isn't theirs to spoil.

Fear much more this dangerous pair,
Who take but never give back;
But you must never ever despair,
You can give them both the sack.
Say no to Esso, join the million that do,
Make sure Bush's wages don't come from you.

Tyger, tyger [with apologies to William Blake]:

Tyger, tyger burning bright
On the forecourts in the night
Blushing, burning, bright with shame,
Because Bush and Esso are the same.

In what distant deeps or skies
Can be heard the tyger cries?
With Esso's money - what a perk!
Bush can do their dirty work.

What the hammer, what the chain?
What could Esso have to gain?
Could it ever be that oil
Is the most important thing of all?

When the stars threw down their spears
Tygers almost drowned in tears
All expressing their regret
In ever being Esso's pet.

Tyger, tyger burning bright
On the forecourts in the night
Blushing, burning, bright with shame,
Because Bush and Esso are the same.

With apologies to William Shakespeare:

Shall I compare thee to a multinational?
Thou art more arrogant and polluting
Rough winds remind me to be rational
As global warming starts to put the boot in.
Sometimes too hot the burning sun doth shine
Thank Esso, and the president they paid
To ditch the Kyoto Treaty line by line
And break all the promises he'd made.
But Esso's market dominance will fade
As drivers turn their backs on Esso fuel,
A mortal blow to this too dirty trade
Could bring about the end of Dubya's rule.
But so long as Esso struts with Bush in train,
So long will they continue this campaign.
